Opera at Bryn Mawr Film Institute
Frequently Asked Questions

Ticket Sales:

Q: How can I purchase tickets for individual performances?
A: Single tickets are available for purchase only at Bryn Mawr Film Institute's box office during regular theater hours. BMFI members may purchase advance tickets to operas at any time after September 1, 2008. Non-members may only purchase day-of-show tickets.

Q: Are tickets transferable?
A: Yes, both subscription tickets and single tickets may be used by a person other than the subscriber or the purchaser.

Q: Are tickets refundable?
A: No, neither subscription tickets nor single tickets are refundable.

Q: I’m a theater member. Is there a limit to the number of tickets I can buy in advance?
A: Yes, and it depends on your level of membership. If you have a membership for two or more people, such as a Couple/Family, Senior Couple, or Producer Couple membership, then you can buy a total of four tickets in advance, two at the member price and two at the non-member price.  If you have a membership for one person, such as an Individual, Senior Individual, or Producer membership, then you may purchase a total of two tickets in advance, one at the member price and one at the non-member price. This is true for all advance ticket sales at Bryn Mawr Film Institute.

Q: I’m not a member, but I really want advance tickets. The only way is to join?
Yes, it is. If you’re interested in becoming a member, you can join in person at the box office with cash or a check at the same time you purchase your tickets, or you can pay with a credit card online at www.BrynMawrFilm.org or via phone at 610-527-4008 x106.

Q: I live far away. Is there any way that I can find out how many tickets are left for an opera so that I can decide whether or not it will be worth the trip?
A: Yes. You can find out how many remaining tickets there are for any given opera by calling the BMFI box office at
610-527-3765 during their hours of operation.

Q: When is the BMFI box office open?
A: The BMFI box office opens thirty minutes before the first show of the day. For showtimes, please check our website www.BrynMawrFilm.org or your local newspaper.

Q: Does the BMFI box office open only thirty minutes before the operas on Sundays at 1pm, too?
A: For these special matinees only, the box office will open at noon for individual ticket sales. Seating will also begin at that time; we suggest you arrive early.

Q: I bought an individual advance ticket which I am unable to use. May I use this ticket for a later opera?
A: No. Opera tickets are non-transferable between performances. However, you can return the ticket before the performance, in person to our box office for a full refund, or pass it on to another opera-lover.

General Questions:

Q: How early does seating begin before the operas?
A: Seating begins an hour before show time on Sundays, and half an hour before showtime on Wednesdays..

Q: I bought my ticket! Are there reserved seats?
A: No. We suggest that you arrive early to ensure that you get the best seats.

Q: Are the operas subtitled in English?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there an intermission?
A: Yes, each opera will have either one or two twenty-minute intermissions, depending on the length of the opera.

Four-Month Series Subscribers:

Q: I subscribed, but I didn’t go to IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA. How do I get my tickets?
A: Your ticket for all four operas will be held for you until the first opera that you attend.

Q: I subscribed, but I lost my ticket(s). Can you replace it/them?
A: No, unfortunately BMFI cannot replace lost or stolen tickets.

Q: I see that there will be a simulcast of DON CARLO on December 7 that is not a part of the subscription series. How do I purchase tickets?
A: Tickets are available for purchase only at Bryn Mawr Film Institute's box office during regular theater hours starting on September 1. BMFI members may purchase advance tickets to operas at any time. Non-members may only purchase day-of-show tickets.  As a series subscriber, you are entitled to buy tickets for DON CARLO at the box office at the reduced rate of $18 for members or $20 for non-members.

Q: I am a subscriber to the Wednesday series, but just discovered that there is one month where I am unable to attend the performance. Am I able to go to the Sunday performance that month instead?
A: Yes! We realize that people’s plans do change, so you will be able to exchange any performance in your series for another performance of the same opera. Exchanges may be made any time prior to the FIRST performance of the opera in question (subject to availability), and must be obtained at the box office during regular box office hours (obviously, the same policy holds true for Sunday subscribers that may want to exchange a ticket for the Wednesday performance).
