A famous director returns home to his native Sicily after receiving news about the death of an old friend and, in flashback, recalls his childhood when he fell in love with film at his village’s theater and formed a deep friendship with the theater’s projectionist. Based on the experiences of screenwriter/director Giuseppe Tornatore, this nostalgic love letter to the magic of movies won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1990.
