Something Wild

Once in a Lifetime: Jonathan Demme in the 1980s
(R) USA – 1 hr 54 min – 35mm
1986 · d. Jonathan Demme   Reviews
Starring Jeff Daniels, Melanie Griffith, Ray Liotta

This modern screwball comedy stars Jeff Daniels as Charles Driggs, an unhappily married businessman whose world flips upside down after a chance meeting with an eccentric brunette named Lulu (Melanie Griffith). The yuppie and the wild woman launch into a spontaneous road trip full of unexpected turns and toward a full-on collision with Lulu’s ex-con husband (Ray Liotta). With a soundtrack featuring tunes from New Order, The Feelies, Oingo Boingo, David Byrne, and others, this kinky comedy, projected from a 35mm print, is an oddball thrill ride in true Jonathan Demme style.

Shown in conjunction with the film course Once in a Lifetime: Jonathan Demme in the 1980s, each film in this series will be introduced by the course’s instructor, Lisa DeNight.
